Rogue Green Clean-Up + Guerilla Art Project

While out on an urban adventure a couple of weeks ago with my Z urchins and some other kids, I was saddened to see a ton of trash and debris along a 3 block stretch of 4th Street.  I decided to do something about it, so organized a Rogue Green clean-up.  I had also read about a really cool project in New Orleans done by Candy Chang that week, which inspired me to create something similar, but make it Phoenix specific.

So the day before the event, I made a trip to Home Depot and the dollar store with the boyfriend where I purchased a 4' x 8' board, some chalkboard paint, white paint, stencils, stickers, and paint brushes.  The chalkboard says: Within the next five years, I'd like to see Phoenix...

Keep Phoenix Beautiful loaned me the clean-up stuff - trash bags, gloves, trash picker uppers, and some other goodies.  (If you ever want to organize your OWN clean up, contact them and they will help you.)

My good pal Jhenifer Krutz from Valley Forward Assoc. brought snacks, best friend Kate Kunberger had some needed tools nearby, the team of people who showed up to help on a holiday weekend at 7:30 a.m. were AWESOME, and  Jim McPherson and E.W. took great photos of our morning.  (Jim, along with Edward Jensen created a very cool wiki for the community you should check out if you haven't already seen it.)

I will be photo documenting the Phoenix wishlist, and Claire Lawton with Phoenix New Times was kind enough to write a blog about the project that you can read HERE.

Let's get busy with the transformation! Enough talking already...
